There are 2 main types of caravan insurance:

• Touring caravan - this is towed behind a vehicle, the caravan is mobile.
• Static caravan - is usually found on a caravan site with its own pitch, the caravan remains in one place.

Separate definitions are required because insurance companies have separate policies for each type of caravan due to there being different type of risks involved e.g. a touring caravan maybe involved in a traffic accident involving other vehicles, whereas a static caravan maybe the subject of a burglary.

Motor-home insurance will be covered in the same category as touring caravans.

It is worth considering taking out breakdown cover for both touring caravans and motor-homes, due to them being roadworthy vehicles, therefore subject to breaking down whilst on route.
